News: HHS proposes changes to substance abuse disorder treatment record-sharing

CDI Strategies - Volume 16, Issue 53

On November 28, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a notice of public rulemaking aimed at improving the exchange of patient records used in the treatment of substance use disorder (SUD).

HHS proposed provisions to implement section 3221 of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act to ensure providers have more complete and timely information when treating patients with SUD, AHA News reported. The American Hospital Association (AHA) is one of several organizations that has advocated for such changes.

HHS will be accepting comments on the proposal for 60 days after the official publication date of December 2.
