News: FY 2026 ICD-10-PCS update adds new codes, effective April 1

CMS announced it is adding 80 new procedure codes to the fiscal year (FY) 2026 ICD-10-PCS code set, available for discharges occurring from April 1 through September 30, 2026, JustCoding reported. This is in addition to the 156 new codes that went into effect on October 1, 2025. Only two codes will be deleted.

The new codes will cover a broad range of procedures, some of which include the following tabular updates:

• New body part character in table 02H for Insertion into ventricular septum
• New body part characters in table 0DD for Extraction of omentum and mesentery
• New qualifier characters in table 0F9 for Drainage of hepatobiliary system and pancreas using a drainage device via natural or artificial endoscopic opening
• New table for Transfer procedures involving the urinary system
• New qualifier character in table 0VT for Resection of prostate
• New substance character in table 3E0 for Introduction of embryonic stem cells to peripheral veins and central veins
• New function and qualifier characters for table 4A0 for Measurement of musculoskeletal body composition
• New qualifier character for table 5A0 for Assistance with cardiac output
• New qualifier and equipment characters for table F07 for Electrotherapeutic treatment of integumentary system
• New qualifier and equipment characters for table F08 for Wound management of integumentary and musculoskeletal system

These additions include ICD-10-PCS codes such as:

• 02HM3NZ, Insertion of intracardiac pacemaker into ventricular septum, percutaneous approach
• 0DDU4ZZ, Extraction of omentum, percutaneous endoscopic approach
• 0F9680E, Drainage of left hepatic duct with drainage device, via natural or artificial opening endoscopic, transpapillary
• 0F9G80D, Drainage of pancreas with drainage device, via natural or artificial opening endoscopic, transmural
• 0TXB0Z6, Transfer of bladder to right ureter, open approach
• 0VT07ZE, Resection of prostate, via natural or artificial opening, capsule intact
• 3E033AZ, Introduction of embryonic stem cells into peripheral vein, percutaneous approach
• 4A0FXEJ, Measurement of musculoskeletal body composition using air displacement plethysmography, external approach
• 5A0221E, Assistance with cardiac output using blood flow modulator, continuous
• F07DYD0, Electrotherapeutic treatment of integumentary system, specifically head and neck, using microcurrent stimulation
• F08E5ZZ, Wound management treatment of integumentary system, specifically the thorax and abdomen

The remaining additions involve new technologies group 11, with new codes in the following tables:

• X27, Dilation of cardiovascular system
• X2H, Insertion into cardiovascular system
• X2K, Bypass of cardiovascular system
• XW0, Introduction into anatomical regions

Two new tables—X9H for Insertion into ear, nose, and sinus and XU7 for Dilation of female reproductive system—will be added as well.  

The two codes that will be deleted include 30233AZ, Transfusion of embryonic stem cells into peripheral vein, percutaneous approach, and 30243AZ, Transfusion of embryonic stem cells into central vein, percutaneous approach.
