Moving Efforts Upstream: Denial Prevention

Denials are a tumultuous landscape for any healthcare organization. With rapidly changing policies, regulations, and technology such as artificial intelligence (AI), it can be a daunting task to stay ahead of denials and work to prevent them upstream—it could even be a full-time job. 

The Association of Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists’ (ACDIS) recent CDI Leadership Council survey, produced in partnership with SmarterDx, explored upstream denial prevention. This includes the involvement of CDI by denial type, technology and methods used for denial prevention efforts, diagnoses that are most often denied or queried, and measuring the effectiveness of denial prevention efforts.
