Note from the Editorial Manager: Local attractions and the ACDIS conference await you in Chicago!
by Karla Kozak
“All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy,” is a 17th century proverb that I think many of us can relate to. Work/life balance is of the utmost importance, and I think it applies even when you’re traveling. While we cannot wait to come together in April at the 2026 ACDIS conference, we recognize that all three-and-a-half days of networking and learning is also a lot of work.
So, when the conference ends each day, we encourage you to have fun exploring all the city of Chicago has to offer. This is a great way to fill your cup after a day of educational sessions and insightful conversations.
Not sure where to start? Well, you came to the right place! Might I suggest:
- A quick walk to the Theater District to see a Broadway play—Hamilton is in town!
- A stroll down the Chicago Riverwalk, a 1.25-mile stretch along the Chicago River offering restaurants and boat tours just steps from the conference center
- A short drive (or leisurely walk!) to Navy Pier, which features shopping, restaurants, rides, and games along the shoreline of Lake Michigan
- A walk down the Magnificent Mile, which includes high-end retail as well as unique shops like the Harry Potter Shop Chicago (featuring the largest butterbeer bar in the U.S.!)
- A visit to the iconic Bean sculpture in Millenium Park
- A trip to one of Chicago’s many museums, including the nearby Museum of Ice Cream or Art Institute of Chicago
- A tour of Wrigley Field—or perhaps even a seat in the stands at a Cubs game!
And while breakfast, lunch, and snacks are included as part of your conference admission, be sure to try some local favorites for dinner, including:
- Chicago deep dish pizza at Lou Malnati’s, Giordano’s, or Gino’s East (to name just a few!)
- Hot dogs, fries, shakes, and Italian beef sandwiches at Portillo’s
- Exclusive coffee and cocktails at the Starbucks Reserve, one of only six locations in the world
With this much to do, you may even want to consider extending your stay! Or bring the family along to explore the city during the day while you attend sessions, and meet up together at night over some deep-dish pies.
Looking forward to a Chicago adventure that didn’t make my list? Let us know! And if you haven’t made the leap yet, know that it’s not too late to register for the conference. Click here to save your spot—the ACDIS team can’t wait to see you in April!
And remember: The Early Bird $100 discount has been extended till Monday, March 2, so act now!
