Note from the Associate Editorial Director: New Journal focuses on CDI opportunities

CDI Strategies - Volume 16, Issue 49

by Linnea Archibald

The seed of expansion was always present in CDI. CDI professionals bring a wide array of talents and backgrounds to their roles, and as healthcare has evolved over time, they’ve brought those skills to the forefront to benefit their organizations and the patients they serve.

Not only do CDI professionals bring continued value to new initiatives and projects within their organizations, but those expanded opportunities offer an often-exciting challenge that keeps CDI professionals energized about their roles and the future of CDI.

According to the 2022 CDI Week Industry Survey, almost half (44.72%) of respondents said that they originally entered the CDI field because it offered them the chance to grow professionally. CDI professionals, for the most part, want to be challenged and to stretch in their roles. CDI’s continued expansion over the past decades has offered them the chance to grow without leaving the profession. It’s an exciting field in part because we don’t know where time will take the profession and how CDI professionals will provide even more benefit for their organizations and patients.

To celebrate all the paths available to today’s CDI professionals, we’ve devoted the November/December edition of the CDI Journal to the many opportunities within the profession. If you’re looking to step into a new role or find your perfect fit, we hope you’ll find something of value in this edition’s pages.

In this edition, readers will learn about:

Additionally, this edition includes our usual Meet a Member feature, an article from our interim director on principal diagnosis selection, and a reprint of an article written by the late Melissa Varnavas on the occasion of ACDIS’ 10th anniversary as we close out celebrating our 15th anniversary in October.

The ACDIS team hopes you enjoy this latest edition and find something helpful within its pages. The January/February edition of the Journal will be focused on CDI basics and the query process. Specifically, we’re looking for individuals who would be willing to share their experience developing query templates and policies. If you’d like to contribute an article or have a topic idea to share, please feel free to reach out.

Happy reading!
